Of course, a TV show can't be secret but the fact that no one knows I watch it is so a secret. And I'm opening the door and inviting you deeper into my world with the below list of my favorite TV shows that no one (well mostly no one) knows that I just enjoy like there's no tomorrow! I love them all more than I should!
Now I can't explain them, and I don't even know if I'd want to, but I def can explain that when these shows come on, I drop everything and stare at the screen like it's gonna teach me the meaning of life. Every. Single. Time.
Here are My Top 5: Favorite Secret TV Shows. Do you have any shows that no one knows you watch when you're all alone? Do tell. We'll never tell...
5)
"The Girls Next Door" (E!; pictured above)
I am known on occasion to watch this show. I have no excuse. Clip below.
4)
"Sábado Gigante" (Univision; pictured above)
I started watching "Gigante" when I was a kid, when my mom and I would marvel at the craziness of the variety show while trying to master our Spanish.
Despite knowing a little more Spanish than I did then, most of the time I still have no idea what's going on on this show, but I do love watching the music acts and every once in awhile, you'll catch a really good one like Thalia below.
Enjoy!
3)
"Sewing with Nancy" (PBS; pictured above)
"Sewing with Nancy" (p.s. 'Nancy' is above right) is one of the longest-running public broadcasting (p.s.s. there's a lot of PBS on this list) sewing shows on television. Do I sew? No. Do I watch "Sewing with Nancy"? Yeah, all the time. Are we slowly realizing that there's something wrong with me?
Yeah, so? Seriously, something about Nancy's ability to show off her skill level, which is impressive, while making some of the ugliest clothes I have ever seen is worth watching. Check out a short clip below...
2)
"Connect with English" (PBS; pictured above)
This very well may be the most embarrassing thing I've ever disclosed on the blog, but it must be said. Alright, "Connect with English" is a show produced for public broadcasting which is a narrative to teach English... you know, this guy can explain it better. Roll it. Didja get that?
This is a show designed to get you to learn English. I have watched every, single, episode. It literally is one of my favorite shows ever. What the f#ck is wrong with me? It's about the girl who wants to sing, I can't... Just watch.
1)
"EastEnders" (BBC-UK; PBS-USA; pictured above)
Alright so my local PBS station shows the British soap "EastEnders" at midnight on Fridays and I watch it EVERY SINGLE WEEK. Don't ask me who any of the characters are because I don't know. I don't know who they are, what they're doing, or what any of the plots are, but I can watch those Brits talk in their funny accents all night long.
Take a look at a clip below...
I feel so much better everyone!
Now don't let me be the only one! Do you have a secret TV show that you need to tell the world you love? This is a judgment-free space, promise!

Marsha Adams Heartland Cooking. It ran on PBS in the early 90s. Don't know what Marsha has been up to since.

I love your secret revealing days. It's like wearing white pants on a hot day.
I think Sewing with Nancy suprised me the most. Especially because you don't sew. She has been a staple of boring saturday channel flicking ever since I can remember. But good for her, we should all be so lucky to have a long running something for our talents.
Eastenders used to be on every night at 10 followed by Britcoms all thru my youth and teenhood. I think it developed a more british sense of humor in me than anything else. I was a big fan of Coronation Street (Jason Grimshaw, {bites hand}) and Emmerdale for a few years too. Unfortunately I have developed an allergy to soaps.
Hi Sam! The description of that show starts with "Mennonite and Amish dishes were brought into the spotlight with the WBGU-PBS’ national series Amish Cooking from Quilt Country..." They had me at Mennonite! I'm so loving it!
Hi Ermine! What's so weird about the "Sewing with Nancy" is that it's just one of the many sewing shows I love to watch although I don't sew. "America Quilts Creatively," "Knit & Crochet Today" I love 'em all! WHY!?
I have no idea! They're just fun!
Mine would have to include "Are You Being Served?". It actually had a lot of subtle humor - Mrs. Slocome was making a gin and tonic, she poured the glass full of gin and then just waved the tonic bottle over the glass and said, "that should be enough." I fall on the floor laughing every time I remember that scene.
Also, on Telemundo there was (or maybe still is) a Sunday Morning top ten hits where they are dancing on the beach. Always LOVED that one, but now living in the Bible Belt all I get Sunday mornings is preaching.
And, Junior, my mom would be so proud of you! She has EVERY episode of Sewing w/Nancy on video tape. Are there any episodes you missed? I may have them in the library . . .
Oh, and I almost forgot - I love that Brit one called Futballers (sp?) Someone is always sleeping with someone else's husband/wife/neighbor/boss! I truely could never keep up with who was-a-doin' who, but it was fun to watch them bunny hop!
And, if I dare, Anna Nicole. If I ever thought my life was messed up, all I had to do was watch Anna and know that I was in a better place!
Ooh Dale, you mean "Footballers Wives" which they were gonna bring to the US but never did. I know that show was juicy but my cable co. dropped BBC America! UGH!
And tell your mom that I LOVE "Sewing with Nancy" too! If I still had a VHS I might tape them, they're that good! I just love how she'll have nothing and then by the end of the show, she'll have made this whole outfit!
And I loved Anna Nicole too but everyone knew that so it wasn't really a secret!
This is truly a great post: I've haven't thought about Sewing with Nancy for YEARS!! I actually DO sew, and she just solidified my love for sewing. My grandmother introduced me to it, and watching Nancy was such a joy for me. While the projects were butt ugly, Nancy made them with skill and care. But did Nancy have a minor stroke or something, I've often wondered about her mouth...?
Sabado Gigante...if there is a show that is more cliche gay than than this one, I have yet to see it! Bright, loud, glittery, the dancers performing as if their lives depended on it...WHAT MORE CAN YOU SAY??!!
I remember watching EastEnders and thinking how small and grubby their lives seemed. Sounds awful, and I apologize, but there was a general sadness that permeated the whole series. But that didn't stop me from tuning in! I really loved it: the men seemed generally uncaring and the women were always shrill, bliss!!
I'm truly speechless about The Girls Next Door...these girls are beautiful, and they are fucking (excuse my French!) an OLD MAN!!
But didn't Hef break up with the one in the photo with the red dress and rhinestone heart? I must say I love that red dress, so cheap and Texan!
If there is one program that I NEVER tire of is Looney Tunes, those Warner Bros. cartoons were GENIUS!! Also, the Little Rascals. All that vintage furniture and clothing....heaven! That was a great show: all the kids, regardless of race, were equally as dirty, ill-behaved, and streetwise, what could be wrong with that?
Thanks bunnilove! There's so much there, I don't know where to start! Yes, I think Nancy did have a stroke but I don't want her to tell me, it adds to her mystique.
"Sabado Gigante" is just pure candy! Often when I watch with my mom, we spontaneously get up and start dancing to whatever local mariachi band they're showing. It's so fun.
I know what you mean about "EastEnders" and honestly, that's why I started watching. I was like "Who are these poor British people and why do I love them?" Actually, I've been to London once and saw their "ghetto" and saw how cute and neat it was and I've been obsessed ever since!
Oh and "The Girls Next Door," do you really think Hef slept with them? Ewwww! I was hoping it was all fake just for the show. I mean I talk about being a prostie but even I have limits!
And the red dress is why I chose the photo!
Hahaha, Junior, great minds think alike!
Exactly, bunnilove!
Bwa ha ha. Great list. In addition to the Girls Next Door, I will delightfully add the following:
1) Coronation Street. My heart sings with glee when I hear the trumpet "doooooooooooo do do do do do do daaaa". I fancy myself a pint everynight.
2) America's Test Kitchen on PBS. One day, i will be a cooking goddess instead of a minute rice whino.
3) The Biggest Loser. Love. Love. Love this show. Love. It. Want. To. Diet. But. My. Love. Of. Food. Interferes.
4) Masterpiece Theater on PBS. I heart me a bonnett drama like nothing else. Do I ever read the book? Nope. But I have it on my shelf to appear learned.
5). Footballers Wives. Dude, love this show. Like a freaking trainwreck this is.
6) America's Next Top Models. Squeee. (Also like Britian's top model, the anoerexic version of ANTM)
7) Probably my most embarassing is a tie between The Bachelor or Big Brother. Choo choo comes the trainwreck.
8)Ok. I'll say it. I like Nascar. There. I said it.
9) Jon & Kate plus 8. I don't like this show. I detest the show. But I watch it any ways. Every freaking time. Stupid demon kids.
Oh, and I forgot to add a Canadian show, Little Mosque on the Prairie. Nothing like a good quality comedy which takes the stereotype on Muslims and expands it 1000 times, but you still love it anyways.
Wait, Dani, hold the phone...
There's a Canadian show called "Little Mosque on the Prarie". How is this the first time I'm hearing about this!? Also, love your list, although you shouldn't keep "American's Test Kitchen" a secret! I love that show! Unless you don't want people to know all those delicious recipes you might make are from a TV show!
I too love Masterpiece Theater: "bonnet drama"...love it!
But hold the darn phone! There REALLY is a comedy called Little Mosque on the Prairie?!
Lord have mercy!
There very much is. http://www.cbc.ca/littlemosque/
If there is one thing I love, it's that Canada is a very multicultural country and you can keep your cultural roots. Heck, in Edmonton, we even have an awesome Heritage Festival in the summer where all the culutures set up tents in the river valley park and we get to see dancing and buy stuff and eat world foods. Awesome.
Dani, Canada sounds lovely, I really dig multicultural food. Hell, I just dig FOOD. The Heritage Festival sounds wonderful. Canada would be PERFECT if it traded places with Mexico, the weather is so much nicer in the south!!
bunnilove, "Hell, I just dig FOOD" had me cracking up! Thanks Dani for the link! I am so loving everything you tell me about Canada!
"Sewing with Nancy" looks fun
Oh, Wonder Man, you have no idea! It's so much fun!
You know Junior, I REALLY love food. As a matter of fact, I'm in school for hospitality management and culinary arts. If it weren't for the crappy economy, I would want to be cooking right now, that's how much I love the kitchen. It's very important to taste everything, so that's one of the main reasons why I don't give the number in my dress too much importance.
Hi bunnilove! That's great, I'm sorry if I called you out but I loved the way you worked "I just LOVE food" into the middle of the sentence. I would love to know how to cook well, or be a ballerina.
Either or.
